Gabrielle Olko, MATCM
I am a graduate of Yo San University where I received my Masters of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (MATCM). Throughout my five years of this Master’s program I have experienced high standards in teaching, research and clinical practice, which has offered a unique combination of TCM and western training. I am excited to be learning and experiencing how today’s integrative environment is bringing TCM practitioners into partnership with a broad array of healthcare providers and disciplines.
The last year of my five year graduate program included 150 hours of clinic theater and Observation, 940 hours on Clinical Internship hours in the clinic at my university, and 60 hours of externship in geriatrics at the at WISE Healthy Aging organization, which were all a hands on experience working in the health-field. This has given me the opportunity to step forward in my own practice. Some of the uses of TCM are for pain management for back, shoulder, neck, hip… eyes, ears, nose, throat… Emotional wellbeing… Women's health … Digestive issues, Aging care..
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) dates back thousands of years ago. It has remained in practice throughout the evolution of the complete medical system. Its relevance and effectiveness continues. TCM includes acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, dietary therapy and physical exercise, a large portion of which is practiced here at the clinic. TCM takes a very personalized approach. The number of treatments varies based on the individual and and the nature of the problem as well as length of time of this issue. It is recommended that patients continue to come in every so often to protect and prevent. There are also many patients that come in with no specific problem, but want to help maintain their health and check in. The principles, theories and practical applications of this medicine focus on the balance of mind, body, spirit to optimize health and prevent illness.
